What are your family’s Easter traditions?
Last year we had just moved in & decided to cater it for our little fam since we weren’t gathering with extended family. It was so good (and easy on me!), we’re doing it again this year. I must admit, it’s quite nice not spending hours cooking when the boys last about 7 minutes at the table. 🤣

Now I can pour my energy into creating fun Easter baskets, setting the table in our dining room, and hiding eggs in the yard (which just got leveled out this week!)

We’ve been wondering whether it’s time to build an addition on our home or if it’s time to list. If you’ve been around here long, you know we love to move! 😂 however, we love our neighborhood and neighbors and backyard, but just seem to need a little more space.

Here’s a few things I put on my list for every Daylight Savings
(some good things to check every 6 months)
-test batteries in smoke detectors & carbon monoxide
-replace rubber squirt bath toys (a favorite spot for mold to hang out)
-flip mattress
-review fire exit plan in the house
-change ceiling fan direction to summer
-throw away Halloween candy 😂🥴

Anyone recognize this house? 😊

Last week I stumbled on an article of home portraits painted by a talented artist who features homes across the US. The artist, Leisa Collins, just moved to our beloved Grand Rapids a few months ago, and the article was a round up of featured homes by neighborhood in GR. I clicked through and when I saw it, I felt my heart drop.

This is the first home I bought, back in 2015. It’s the one where I started my life again, the one Canan and I fell in love in. We built our life together within these walls, and it’s the home we brought our sweet Leo home to. It’s also where I started House of Navy, having painted it navy and white from its green and purple, and where I started the blog as we know it today.

I was able to track Leisa down and buy the original painting from her, and it’ll hang in the home we have now, and any potential one after it, as a sweet and sentimental reminder of “where it all started.”

Thanks for being here on part of the journey, friends, and thank you for supporting House of Navy. ✨

What’s your favorite yard game?
For years, I was on team corn hole, but last year our neighbors introduced us to Kubb, and I‘ve never looked back.

Either way, we’re thawing out & patio season is almost upon us! 🙌🏼 sharing some of my favorite preppy patio and porch finds to help turn your outdoor space into #backyardgoals.

Last year we (Canan) extended the deck, added a traeger grilling area, added a concrete slab for a hot tub, added a play area and blew in wood chips, added a shed, fire pit area, and added a kids playhouse that I use more than the boys. Sharing the projects we’re tackling this year on the blog!
