Last week, Canan, the boys, and I had the pleasure of attending the Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club. The four day competition featured 144 of the best professional women golfers and a $2,000,000 purse. Neither Canan or I have been to a professional golf tournament before and it was so fun to be able to come several days in a row, right in our hometown! We watched the golfers, walked the course as spectators, and enjoyed the fun activities and appetizers.
Proceeds from the event go straight to Simply Give, a program established by Meijer that addresses hunger needs throughout the midwest by stocking food pantries. Since its inception, Simply Give has raised nearly $5,000,000 from past tournaments! How cool is that!?
We attended the Grand Taste preview night on Thursday where we were able to sample crafted cocktails and appetizers from Meijer, its distributors, as well as local restaurants. Canan fell in love with “the best mac & cheese of his life” (topped with flaming hot cheetos!) and I went back for a second charcuterie board from one of the Meijer kitchen booths.
We even were able to choose a Stella Artois glass to have engraved!
We were able to see some play from the golfers on Thursday night due to the rain delays throughout the day, and we came back with both boys on Friday to enjoy the garden tent and kids tent called Discovery Land.
We were blown away by the incredible kids tent, complete with a putting green, play Meijer store, craft corner, hair spray salon, and tons of toys. Leo loved trying out the putting green and playing with everything Paw Patrol. The kids tent had a snack bar where kids could choose from fruit snacks, dried fruit, juice boxes, chips, and more! You could even chose two toys to bring home with you, which Leo loved.
For the first time this year, there was also a mom’s tent! It was so incredible to be able to nurse and change Warren in a clean, comfortable, and completely stocked area. Any parent knows how stressful it can be to try to nurse in public or find a clean and dry area to change a diaper when you’re away from home. There were four individual rooms, complete with dresser and changing table, a chair, and even toys for Leo to play with while I nursed and changed Warren. They truly thought of everything!
Meijer’s LPGA Classic will be back again next year, and we will definitely be coming back! It was such a fun event for our entire family with proceeds going to a great cause.
