It’s hard to really call this a before & after when it didn’t exist in the first place!
We knew as soon as we saw the house that we wanted to turn this covered porch into the laundry room and mud room for our family. One of the things I really liked in our previous home was having the laundry on the main floor rather than the basement, which is very common for older homes and for Michigan. To be honest, I don’t think we’d keep up with it if it wasn’t on the main floor! This is also the perfect spot to store shoes, hats, coats, and drop our stuff after coming in the house. We do have a gorgeous coat closet off the main entrance that we use for coats and offseason gear, but this is the entrance we prefer, off the backyard.

We used navy cabinets for our kitchen, but opted for white lower cabinets in our laundry room and butler pantry. It keeps the look fresh and clean. I love the black and white detail contrast, and this is the one room in the house that really doesn’t have any navy in it! Instead, we opted for black, white, gold, wicker, and greenery.
Cody loves the shiplap look, whereas I am much more hesitant. I love the look in an actual farmhouse or in a cottage, but I’m just not sold on it in a city house. (Am I alone?) However, this was a perfect place to have it and we’re both really pleased with the outcome.
I love the lockers and baskets for each of us. I grabbed a few paperclip signs from hobby lobby for each of our initials-everyone has a spot for their stuff!
I love the runner and we have Dash & Albert rugs throughout the house-one of my favorite brands!
