The blog has been silent for a while, but things are as busy as ever in our life. I shared the news in November that we sold our first home and purchased a fixer upper. We closed the week of Thanksgiving and have been working on the transformation for the past two months. Our new home is just a few blocks away from the old one and we are excited to be staying in the neighborhood we love- walkable to downtown, eastown, east hills, and heritage hill and all of the shops, bakeries, restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and farmer’s market the area offers. We still have a lot of work to do, but we’re getting there and excited for all the memories that will be created here and the moments that will take place in this space.
We love older homes and we immediately fell in love with the character and potential this home has to offer-gorgeous hardwood floors, ornate windows, an amazing coat closet, a walk up third floor, and a huge front sunroom surrounded with bright windows. It is an older house though and it has needed a ton of updating and prep work before we’ve even been able to get to the fun stuff of painting and decorating. We’ve updated the plumbing, HVAC, and upgraded the electricity from the old knob and tube. We’ve had a few surprises along the way as well, like learning there was a chimney running through the kitchen behind a wall we intended to have cabinets on. We reworked the drawing, had an expert mason come in, and now the chimney is a star feature of our kitchen. We’ve eliminated walls, put up new ones, and have spent the better part of 2018 caked in dust.
