We absolutely love flavorful, unique food, and Grove does a great job of serving up creative dishes. (No need to mention again how much we love their brussels sprouts!) Not only is Grove the #1 restaurant in Grand Rapids, it happens to be a block away from our house. So when we heard they were featuring a 6 course dinner with a cocktail pairing for each, we knew we had to sign up!
This was meant to be our Christmas dinner, but after finding out great news on Friday, Canan insisted we change the cause for celebration. The setting was intimate, with each table lined against the back of the restaurant. It was so fun to chat with the tables next to us and share which dishes we loved most.
Starter:
Panna cotta with pickled radishes, shaved red onion, topped with crushed everything bagel. Paired with a fresh squeezed orange juice mimosa.
Course One:
Mushrooms Three Ways
with farro, steal cut oat, carrot, cauliflower puree, and mushroom vinaigrette. Paired with Cremant d’alsace brut zinck alsace, France
Course Two:
Potato stack with terrine, blis roe, herbs, onions, and an egg foam. Paired with Gavi (cortese) San Silvestro, Fossili, Gavi, Italy
Course Three: (My favorite!)
Prosciutto wrapped quail with asiago, celery root, brioche, and mustard. Paired with a Napa Valley Cabernet, Vindicated, Lot #4
Course Four: (Canan’s Favorite)
Beef with fig hoisin, carrot puree, pink peppercorn, smoked broccoli, fried rice. Garnished with cilantro. Paired with a Meritage from Napa Valley.
Course Five:
Carrot Sponge Cake with blueberries, toasted almonds, and a creme fraiche ganache. Paired with a hot toddy: Bulleit Rye, lemon, honey syrup, and house-made bitters.
I can’t think of any better way to kick off Christmas week!
